Past Event – The Thirlmere Viaduct – Speaker Event – Friday 8th March

More than a century ago a massive 80+ mile tunnel was built under Skelsmergh and Scalthwaiterigg. This Victorian engineering marvel carries water all the way from Thirlmere to Manchester entirely by gravity.  Nobody knows more about this aqueduct than John Butcher who worked for United Utilities for more than 25 years and was their aqueducts manager. John will tell the remarkable story of the aqueduct on Friday March 8^th (7pm for 7.30) Entry: £5 (John has kindly not charged a fee so this is a fundraiser for the Hall charity)
